Prevalent is a social impact series about the social issues and the types of difficulties and challenges society face unveiled in a nine-piece photo series. Prevalent encourages the viewer to interact intellectually, emotionally, and sometimes with conditions and practices that we face in American society today. Many are overlooked and need to be examined like gun violence, racism, mass shooting, civil rights, religion, human rights, and abortion to name a few. What impact does this information have on us and our environment? Where do we stand on these current social issues and how should we as a nation and the world address them? Each of us has unlimited power and the ability to make a change in our community and the world at large.

Who Inspire me

I was motived by my fellow Detroiter the late great Aretha Franklin stated that “Being a Queen is not all about singing, and being a diva is not all about singing. It has much to do with your service to people. And your social contributions to your community and your civic contributions as well”.

How Prevalent is created

The Prevalent series are double picture frames are one of a kind and made out of wood floor molding and are handcrafted. The size of the frames is 46in x 21in or 20in x17in. They are made to have the aspect ratio of a billboard and have no glass in the frames so the viewer can take an up-close look at the photographs with no restrictions. The images are 16 x 20 black and white prints. The frames are painted black and have short statements on the frame that relate to the topic of the photos. Also, there will be positive words painted on the wall that relate to the topic of the frame. The goal that I would like for Prevalent is for it to become a traveling exhibition with a community panel talk and guest speakers that will talk about the topics in Prevalent. Because this series gracefully draws the viewer’s attention to start having a conversation about the issue that is affecting us today. Because conversation can start a change to solve some of our issues in the world today.
