Charzette is a photographer, mixed media artist, screenwriter, and educator of photography for many years who was raised in Detroit, Mi. She is committed to social justice impacted art that changes the community and the world. Torrence graduated from the Center for Creative Studies with a B.F.A in photography. She was selected in (1992) for the Maine Photography Workshop Residencies. Her Single “Working Parents Series” was commission by the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in (1994) to be a part of their permanent collection. Then her “Just As We Are Series” which is a 50 piece-16x20 Black and white portraits of LGBTQIA series tour in (2006/2007). Her Prevalent series was shown at Art Basel in (2018/2019). She also partners with AALSUC for 50th stonewall pride to show African American LGBTQIA at the Marriott Brooklyn from her “Just As We Are Series” in (2019). Charzette received the Firecracker COVID–19 grant for her “Prevalent Series” in (2020). She was a judge for the Bronx council of the Art Grant in (2020). Her photography will be a feature in City College of New York LGBTQ Anthology book for (2020). Her photography will be feature by World Press Photo on their Instagram in (2020). She won the Aspen Art Curation LGBTQ artist scholarship for (2020) Her “Whimsical Beauty of Nature” which is a color triptych made the first round of jury in the Photoville FENCES. Charzette Torrence currently lives in Harlem, NY which she loves the sounds and creative to create her artwork.
