Personal Profile

Charzette is a photographer, a proud African American female LGBTQIA mixed media artist, and an educator of photography for many years. Who was raised in Detroit, Mi She is committed to social justice art that changes our community and impacts the world. Torrence graduated from the Center for Creative Studies with a B.F.A. in Fine Art Photography. Her photography will be a feature in the City College of New York LGBTQ Anthology book (2022) Charzette received the International UK Firecracker Women COVID–19 grant for her “Prevalent Series” in (2020). She was a judge for the Bronx council of the Art BRIO visual artist grant (2020). Her photography was a feature on World Press Photo Instagram (2020). She won the Aspen Art Curation LGBTQ artist scholarship (2020) Her “Whimsical Beauty of Nature” is a color triptych that made the first round of jury in the Photoville FENCES. Her Prevalent series was shown at Art Basel in Miami Florida in (2018/2019). She also partners with AALSUC for the 50th stonewall pride to show African American LGBTQIA at the Marriott Brooklyn from her “Just As We Are Series” (2019). Then her “Just As We Are Series” which is a 50 piece-16x20 Black and white portraits of LGBTQIA series tour in (2006/2007). Her Single “Working Parents Series” was commissioned by the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in (1994) to be a part of their permanent collection. She was selected for the Maine Photography Workshop Residencies(1992). She lives in the Bronx, NY where she loves the sound and the spice of life to create her art
